Charter CoLivIt

National CoLiving Network Italy – principles, rules and organisational structure of the association

The charter defines the principles, rules and organisational structure of CoLivIt, the national network dedicated to CoLiving operators in Italy. It is the binding founding document for all members and bodies of the association.


Art. 1 – Name

The unregistered association named “CoLivIt – National CoLiving Network Italy”, hereinafter “Association”, is hereby established.

Art. 2 – Registered Office and Operations

The registered office is in Milan.

The Association operates in a hybrid mode, favouring digital and telematic tools. Meetings, resolutions and communications may take place in person, remotely or in a mixed mode.

Art. 3 – Purpose

The Association is non-partisan, non-political and non-profit. The distribution of profits, even indirectly, is prohibited.

Main purposes:

  • represent and protect CoLiving operators in Italy;
  • promote the development and dissemination of the sector;
  • foster the regulatory recognition of CoLiving;
  • create a national network of facilities and operators;
  • promote studies, research, events and training activities.

Art. 4 – Development and Tools

The Association may establish collective and quality marks, certification, validation, rating and operational standard systems for CoLiving facilities, with possible issue of attestations to members.

It may also establish technical committees, working groups and regional sections.

Art. 5 – Member Categories

The following member categories are provided:

  • Ordinary Members (operators with active housing units);
  • Founding Members;
  • Supporting Members;
  • Local Trade Associations;
  • National Trade Associations;
  • Corporate Partners.

Art. 6 – Admission

The admission of members is decided by the Board of Directors upon written request, including in digital format.

Art. 7 – Rights and Duties

Ordinary Members and Founding Members have voting rights.

Supporting Members, Trade Associations and Corporate Partners have no voting rights.

All members are required to comply with the charter, any regulations and the standards defined by the Association.

Art. 8 – Membership Fees

Members pay an annual membership fee. The amount of fees is set annually by the Board of Directors. Fees are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Art. 9 – Bodies of the Association

The bodies of the Association are:

  • the Members’ Assembly;
  • the President;
  • the Board of Directors;
  • the Vice-President;
  • the Secretary.

Art. 10 – Members’ Assembly

The Assembly meets at least once a year. It may be held in person, remotely or in a mixed mode. It resolves by majority of those present, except in cases where a qualified majority is required.

Art. 11 – Board of Directors

The Board of Directors consists of an odd number of members, minimum 3. Members remain in office for the duration established at appointment and may be re-elected.

The Board resolves by majority of those present. In case of a tie, the President’s vote is decisive.

The President may only be removed by a resolution of the Members’ Assembly adopted by a qualified majority of 2/3 of the Ordinary Members.

Art. 12 – President

The President legally represents the Association, convenes and chairs the Members’ Assembly and the Board of Directors.

Art. 13 – Voluntary Roles

Association roles are voluntary, subject to reimbursement of documented expenses incurred in carrying out the role.

Art. 14 – Assets

The assets of the Association consist of:

  • membership fees;
  • public and private contributions;
  • donations;
  • proceeds from institutional activities.

Art. 15 – CoLiving Standards, Certification and Validation

The Association defines quality standards for member facilities, relating to services, community, spaces and management.

The Association may also develop certification and validation systems for CoLiving facilities and operational models, with possible issue of attestations, ratings or quality marks.

Art. 16 – Exclusion of Members

The Board of Directors may resolve to exclude a member for:

  • behaviour contrary to the purposes of the Association;
  • failure to comply with standards, certifications or regulations;
  • non-payment of membership fees.

Art. 17 – Launch Transitional Provision

The first five admitted operators are exempt from the membership fee for the first year.

Operators from the sixth to the tenth receive a 50% reduction in the fee for the first year.

Art. 18 – Dissolution

In the event of dissolution of the Association, the remaining assets shall be transferred to another association with similar purposes or for social utility purposes.
